Lost Cat
LostCatPic If you adopted a microchipped cat from North Texas Cat Rescue, please contact us immediately so that we can report your cat missing. We will also generate a Lost Cat flyer with your cat’s description and will distribute copies to local vet offices and area businesses.

You can e-mail us at ntcr@northtexascatrescue.com or leave a voice message at 214-454-9395.  Give us your cat’s name, date, time, and location where the cat went missing.  E-mail us a recent photo so that we can generate a flyer with this information.  Listed below are some tips for you to use to help find your kitty.

TIPS

iMMEDIATELY

  • Before your pet has time to roam too far, gather neighbors and friends to search the area.  Immediately begin searching within a two-mile radius from where your pet was last seen.  Cats are not big travelers and are often found near their home hiding in the bushes or shrubby trees.  They will also get into your or your neighbor's crawlspaces, underneath steps/stoops, lawn buildings, etc., so be sure to cover those areas and to ask people in the neighborhood to do the same. If the cat is not used to being outdoors, they tend to stay very close to home for the first week or so.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK...
  • Put canned mackerel (best), tuna, or smelly canned fish cat food in your garage (leaving the door cracked open slightly) to entice the kitty back home. If you don't have a garage place food where you think your kitty will gravitate to.
  • Put the litter box out (porch, garage, front door) along with bedding or anything that smells of home.
  • Create and print lost pet posters including your pet’s name, photo, and phone number.  Distribute flyers door-to-door in your neighborhood and post flyers around the neighborhood. Click here for a lost cat door hanger.
  • Don’t delay!  Contact all of your local shelters, veterinarian offices and humane societies to report your pet missing with flyers giving an accurate description of your pet: hair/coat length and color – don’t forget special markings; size; age.  Continue to call or visit on a daily basis since shelter staff can change from day to day.
  • If you live in a neighborhood with a homeowner’s association and they have a message board, post the lost kitty on their website.
Remember to stay optimistic and continue to go out at night and quietly look under the bushes for your cat. Note: When your pet is microchipped, the chances of your pet returning increase dramatically!
