Cannon had a rough start to life, but thanks to the NTCR volunteers who rescued him out of a Walmart parking lot, his life has become exponentially better. He was very sick and had quite a few bite wounds that were infected. In addition, he had bad teeth, making it difficult for him to eat. After seeing our vet, getting his wounds cleaned, getting neutered, getting a dental, and getting ALL the meds, Cannon is finally healthy and ready for his forever home!! Hurray!!
He LOVES LOVES LOVES wet food and eats dry kibble really well too. He loves his bougie cat bed and soft blankie - those will go with him to his forever home. He does have "tragic tabby face" and looks very sad and pitiful - pretty much all the time. He is not a fan of cat carriers so a top loading carrier is best for him and we're going to insist that his forever home has one of those for him (and not a soft-sided, top-loading one. It needs to be hard-sided).
He has not been introduced to the foster’s other cats, but we always recommend slow introductions in a new environment. He may not be the best fit for a home with small children as he doesn’t seem to like his back touched and may swat at you. He did have x-rays done and there’s no injuries, so he’s just a sensitive boy.
Cannon is FIV+. If you're not familiar with FIV, it stands for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). It is a virus that is not transmittable to other species and only spread from cat-to-cat via blood - so deep bite wounds. It does not negatively affect a cat's life or lifespan, nor does it impact their quality of life. It's really important that if an FIV+ cat shows signs of illness, they are taken to the vet immediately as they can take a bit longer to recover.
